What are the group sizes?

We don’t see the value in big tour groups, which is why our tours never exceed 20 guests.

What type of people tend to join the trips?

Carex Tour’s trips are designed for everyone who is eager to explore different garden styles and plant varieties. Our garden enthusiasts are open-minded and enjoy learning about the gardening culture of other countries.

It’s not necessary for our guests to be garden experts to appreciate the beauty of the exceptional gardens we visit. On our tours we have people with different levels of garden knowledge: from landscape designers, plant people, seasoned green thumbs to gardening newbies – all are welcome!

Our groups are typically a mix of singles, couples and friends.

What is the age range of your guests?

Age is just a number, and we aren’t worried about it. Most people who are into gardening seem to have a youthful spirit, and they tend to be active and energetic, no matter their age.

The majority of our guests are between 40 and 80 years old, but we occasionally get bookings from people who are younger than that and form a clique with the rest of the older age group.

Do I need to be fit for this trip?

Our trips don’t include any extreme physical-required activities, but note that you’ll stroll through a couple of gardens daily, and walk through charming cobblestoned villages and historic sites every now and again. None of the activities we plan are designed to be competitive. You can take as many breaks as you wish in the gardens and go at your own pace.

Most activities are optional, meaning that if you don’t feel like it, you can skip it but it will be impossible to enjoy your trip if you’re not able to do a walking tour for a full afternoon.

Keep in mind that you will need to be able to climb a flight of stairs and handle your own luggage throughout the trip.

Unfortunately our tours cannot accommodate people requiring walking aids.

What are the room allocation options? Can I upgrade my room?

Guests can choose between a Shared Room or a Private Room (subject to availability and additional costs). If you’re travelling with a friend or partner, just let us know whether you’d prefer a twin or double room.

For trips running before 2026: If you’re booking a Shared Room on your own, we’ll have a quick chat with you to help find a good roomie match. Please note: while we aim to match thoughtfully, Shared Rooms may come with the occasional quirk (like snoring). If you’d prefer more privacy, you can upgrade to a Private Room before the trip begins.

For trips running from January 2026: To book a Shared Room you will need to have a travel buddy to share with, either a partner or friend. If you’re traveling solo you will need to book a Private Room.

Once the trip has started, room types can’t be changed – so please get in touch early if you’re considering changing your room type.

Are the international airfares included?

International airfares are not included. Being a tour operator (not travel agents), we are not licensed to sell flights. We recommend contacting your trusted local travel agent to book flights if you’re in need of assistance.

Is Carex Tours able to help with extra nights stay in hotels?

Arriving early is a great idea to account for flight delays and recover from jet lag. However, Carex Tours does not handle extra nights in hotels. You’re welcome to arrange your own Pre- or Post-Trip accommodation independently.

If you book extra nights at the same Start or End Hotel listed in your itinerary, please email your confirmation details to contact@carexdesign.com. We can’t guarantee it, but we’ll do our best to coordinate your stay so you can remain in the same room during the trip.

Are there other activities besides visiting gardens?

There are, but… not that many! Our tours are garden-centered as we believe gardening is an art form that introduces you to local culture, much like cuisine or architecture. We’ve designed garden tours that focus on exploring local gardening culture. That said, we also understand that if you’ve taken a long-haul flight to join one of our tours, you’ll likely appreciate the chance to experience just a little more than just gardens. That’s why we usually include a couple of carefully chosen cultural or scenic activities in the itinerary.

Is it possible to skip some of the activities and join the group along the way?

Our trips are designed as complete experiences, with a carefully planned flow and logistics that work best when everyone travels together. While it’s okay to opt out of certain activities if you’d like some downtime, we don’t advise you to skip sections of the trip and rejoin the group later.

What travel company operates the trips?

Up until 2025, all tours hosted by Carex Tours have been operated by Garden Tours. As we continue to expand our destination portfolio, we’re about to work with other trusted tour operators.

These designated operators are responsible for arranging the actual tours of the garden sites. They also act as agents for services connected to specific Carex Tours trips – such as ground transportation, accommodations, and meals.

Can I suggest a particular garden or destination to be considered for an upcoming tour?

Yes! Feel free to reach out with any requests as we’re always investigating new destinations.

For tours to countries where English is not a first language, will all gardens have a translator?

Guests are accompanied throughout the trip by an English-speaking guide with expertise in gardening. At most locations on the itinerary, there will also be local guides who speak English.

Is Carex Tours able to help with entry requirements to a destination?

Carex Tours cannot offer advice on entry requirements to a destination country. You’re responsible for having the correct passport, visas, permits, and certificates for your citizenship.

Please check with your Travel Agent or government website to make sure you have everything you need.

Any helpful visa information we can provide will be detailed within your Trip Notes, after booking, when they’re ready.

We also cannot offer advice on vaccinations, we recommend you speak with a doctor (great for advice on travel with personal medications, too!). Some countries have strict entry requirements for vaccinations, so be sure you have the correct ones.
